The Badlands

While on your way to Mount Rushmore, if driving, if can make a pit stop in the Badlands National Park. This park has a road that takes you through the heart of the Badlands, and there are different stops along the way so you can get out of the car and stretch your legs and hike. This park contains the world's richest Oligocene epoch fossil beds, dating 37-28 million years old (Badlands National Park). The park has many features that make it an educational vacation destination.

Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Park is located right outside Keystone, South Dakota. This monuement representing four of the presidents of the United States has a welcome center that provides the park with the history of what brought the monuement to be. There are stories from the workers that help build the rock carvings and the welcome center also features educational movies of the building of Mount Rushmore. If you want to watch the monuement being lit up at night, the park provides the vistors with a ceremony before they light the faces of the four presidents up.

Gettysburg

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is the site that one of the biggest battles in the American Civial War took place. This national park has many historical landmarks that your family can visit. There are numerous battlefields, trails, and monuments located across the park. Also, there is the Gettysburg cementary, which is only for the soldiers that were killed in the battle. To get around to see all of these things you can either drive yourself or sign up for a tour.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Cayon National Park in Arizona provide numerous educational experiences. One can go through the history of the canyon at the welcome center. There are also numerous historical landmarks in the park, such as some of the ranger buildings. Also, at this park your famiily can take donkey rides into the canyon, or you can take a hike on the many trails leading down into the canyon. Or, you and your family can enjoy a helicopter ride overlooking the expansive canyon. There are also many activities for children that the park provide, like the junior ranger program.
